PERPIGNAN, France - Stephanie Sinclair of the VII Photo Agency has won the prestigious Visa d'Or feature award for her project on child brides.
When she received the award on Friday at the Visa Pour l'Image festival in Perpignan, she became the first photographer to win three times. Her work was published in National Geographic magazine and was also exhibited at the festival, garnering widespread praise. The jury reached its decision unanimously in a matter of minutes.

Upon receiving the award from Jean-François Leroy, the festival's founder and director, Ms. Sinclair said, âEven though the industry is having a hard time, if you believe in something and know in your heart that it needs to be documented, people will publish it. You can do it.â
On Saturday, Eric Bouvet received the Visa d'Or news award for his coverage from Bab al-Azizia, Libya, for Le Figaro Magazine.
Earlier in the week, Tomás Munita received the Visa d'Or daily press award for his photographs of the conflict in Syria for The New York Times.
The award for young photojournalists was renamed to h onor Rémi Ochlik who was killed in Homs, Syria, on Feb. 22. Sebastian Liste of Reportage by Getty Images became the first winner of the City of Perpignan Rémi Ochlik Award for his photographs of a community of squatters living in an abandoned chocolate factory in the center of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
Other winners included Misha Friedman for his report on tuberculosis in the former Soviet Union and Maciek Nabrdalik for his for report on economic migration in Europe. Sarah Caron won the Canon Female Photojournalist Award.
